KATHMANDU—These photos were taken on November 13, 2009 during a Maoist rally held in Kathmandu near the government offices at Singh Durbar. Nepal’s decade-long civil war ended in 2006 when the monarchy was abolished in a peace deal with the Maoists. Nepal’s peace is proving to be more fragile than originally hoped and this year has seen tensions between the former Maoist rebels, now the United Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist), and the government continue to rise.
